A wake up Call ! - ThE DeBuT

Friends, inmates, admirers (ahem) , followers (?) , well wishers and fellow bloggers! Yess finally I have arrived.. :)

This piece of writing happens to hold the distinction of being my first unofficial blog which I wrote as a part of our MBA assignment but never took the trouble to actually post it despite the commitment I exude in the same. This was sometime back in 2006-07 when we were a bundle of happy souls all around, placed in good companies and were about to wrap up our 2 yrs Post graduation programme.
Its not that I am short of ideas but just feel.. that any First in life is always special.. be it the First Kiss, First Love, First Friend, First Child and so on.. So I begin with the unedited version of 'A wake Up call !' Enjoy reading folks!

Here it goes.....

A Wake Up call….. For one and All

The other day I was reading an article on how Knowledge Management has flung open new horizons and cast focus on the importance of storing, harnessing and most importantly disseminating the intellectual capital in any organization which had led to the emergence of a new set of roles and responsibilities and a potential one is that of a Chief Knowledge Officer.

Knowledge is always the most endearing and sought after resource of any community, company or nation or in a more flowery terminology “The Intellectual Capital”. Time and again intelligentsia, luminaries and visionaries across the globe have at some point of time emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge with the rest of the world. Because this is perhaps the only resource which multiplies & procreates the more it is expended!

This was with respect to a limited arena of a particular organization. However, speaking in terms of appealing to a mass internet community what tickles your mind as far as knowledge dissemination is concerned, is the new breeze of participatory media on the block. Be it blogs, podcasts, webcasts, screencasts etc.

THE CONFESSION
Although I have been hearing about the blogosphere and its captivating & trancing impact over the internet fanatics for quite sometime. Seldom did I attempt to peek into the real world of blogs/podcasts. Exploring the underlying reason might require my writing another blog ‘101 excuses why I am always short of time…’. Well Student Life has its own fancies and reservations and own time constraints at the same time. As we always state in the regular cliché “Yaar! Kya karun, time nahin hai!” (lamenting over shortage of time). But one thing I can say with 200% confidence that even if a day was comprised of 48hrs we would have complained the same!!

THE REVELATION
Parag sir’s (our then faculty) lecture and workshops have always been an eye opener. He is the one who inspires us to think beyond the normal classroom environment. And this workshop on new media technology has been absolutely no exception. He is the one who relentlessly endeavors to infuse and imbibe that spark of enthusiasm and ebullience among the disinterested lot of students mostly busy fiddling with their cell phones. Fault lies not within our character but our complacent & cushy attitude.

During the workshop I got as insight into the pros & cons (not many) of sailing into the sea of blogs and podcasts and the benefits we can derive by capitalizing this really effective means of voicing your opinions and sharing the experience/knowledge reservoir

THE OPPORTUNITY
I have always had a keen inclination and interest towards writing and as I always say my friends “you will come to know about that in my autobiography”. Well I will surely come up with that some day but that still years and years away. But as of now atleast I have a platform to share, express and discuss what invades and engrosses my mind as a fresh MBA graduate, a fresh industry entrant or a passing out senior or just another dreamer.

The problem with budding professionals or a newbie is that their minds are swamped with oodles of facts, figures, theories, fundas and concepts.. We are too much into cramming and churning of information that somewhere down the line we tend to mess up the basics. We are already maestros in “searching -> copy + paste” (due credit to Google & other search engines), lets be atleast initiators in expressing also! Knowledge transfer has to be a two way process right?? Why not explore the niche role of a knowledge contributor for a change!

As my friends have already enlisted numerous advantages of blogging and podcasting for that matter, so I intend not to be repetitive. So just a little standpoint- Experience for yourself how stimulating can the consummation and practice of ‘new media technology’ be to your network of billions of neurons and thus amelioration of your own thought process.

May be few years hence you would culminate into the perfect technology evangelist yourself! If not so, atleast it would aid in channelizing our potential and convergence of cognizance as to what interests us the most academically and appeals aesthetically. And may be next time when someone asks me which IT domain I wish to specialize into? I have a more concrete reply based on my own discretion & not the employer’s imposition.

And finally….

THE RESOLUTION
And since this article embodies a lot many clichés here I shoot one more ‘Its better late than Never!’ – Very plebeian yet very true!

And as Kathy Sierra says in her blog ‘How to be an expert’ - The only thing standing between you-as-amateur and you-as-expert is dedication.

Although I am yet to write my maiden blog and am a novice to blogosphere, I feel pretty much confident to produce one in the near future. And also a second, a third, a fourth…… All I would appreciate are a handful of readers for this aspiring blogger! And yeah Podcasting will surely follow! :-)

Knock Knock.. Anyone's awake?? :P If yes.. Drop in a comment plss :-)
